LIL DUVAL IS A CRASS UNFEELING PIG!

Comedians can be crude in their humor, but Lil Duval's tweet to an already dead Teena Marie has got to be the crudest of them all. Lil Duval's Twitter time line is filled with jokes and dialog that reflect his often crude personality. But that's expected from a comedian. But when word began to spread that R&B songstress Teena Marie had passed away, Duval just couldn't help himself when he tweeted something that was completely in bad taste.



Apparently trying to find out whether the rumors were true, Duval tweeted "hey are u dead" to MsTeenaMarie. Maybe he thought it was the best way to find out whether she was alive. But when CNN confirmed that she had indeed died on Dec, 26 in her bedroom at the age of 54, that tweet took on a whole new meaning.

The backlash was fast and furious from Twitter, and an #unfollowlilduval campaign ensued. Duval tried to defend his tasteless antics but to no avail. The bottom line was that posting that tweet was unnecessary and certainly didn't help confirm or deny the reports, which had the Internet up in arms.

There are some things you just shouldn't tweet. Asking someone on Twitter whether they are dead is certainly one of them.


I wasn't following him anyway and I encourage everyone who is to stop cause this is just beyond unacceptable!

TEENA MARIE REMEMBERED BY R&B FOUNDATION

As the outpouring of words continues for late soul singer Teena Marie, The Rhythm & Blues Foundation looks back on one of her great achievements. Marie was the recipient of the R&B Foundation's 2008 Pioneer Award, which recognized her as "a true pioneer of R&B music and a musical bridge builder."

"She brought people from all walks of life together under the banner of soulful, heartfelt music," said R&B Foundation Chairman Damon Williams. The voice behind songs like 'Square Biz' and 'Lover Girl,' Marie was called the "female Rick James" by former Motown Records Vice President Iris Gordy, and later duet with James on the song 'Fire and Desire.' 

"Teena was a thoughtful, insightful and incredibly sensitive artist who approached life like a knowing soul who had truly 'been here before." Gordy said. "Always a fearless songwriter and producer, Teena possessed a uniquely recognizable vocal style. Her artistic light will remain incredibly bright. She was much loved and will be missed beyond measure."

Called the 'Ivory Queen of Soul,' Marie died in her sleep on Dec. 26 at her Pasadena, Calif. home. She was 54. Since her untimely death, the R&B community has commented on her contribution to music. "I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Teena."Lenny Kravitz said of his one-time mentor in a recent video. Swizz Beatz called her one of the "best voices of music." 

When accepting the Pioneer Award, Marie reflected on her accomplishments. "I asked my heavenly father to take my poetry and let me set it to music, and he did," she said. 

Teena Marie's Death May Have Been Due To Seizure

As the mystery around Teena Marie's sudden death unravels, it appears a seizure may have played a role in the singer's passing.

The late R&B vet was found dead in her home by her daughter the day after Christmas. TMZ reports that Marie might have suffered a grand mal seizure while taking a nap on Sunday afternoon. Marie's daughter reportedly checked in on her at 1 p.m. and she was fine. However, when her daughter checked in on her at 3 p.m., Marie was unresponsive. Marie also sustained a grand mal seizure last month and had insisted on having someone nearby when she went to sleep.

Illegal drugs appear to have been ruled out as a culprit as well. According to TMZ, law enforcement officials failed to find any illegal drugs that may have contributed to the songstress' unexpected death. Toxicology tests and an autopsy are slated to be performed later this week.

Marie, born Mary Christine Brockert, shot to fame in the late 1970s when she signed to the storied Motown label. A Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist who penned music in addition to boasting some dynamic pipes, Marie built a reputation as one of the strongest voices in R&B and soul music. She was known for hits like "Lovergirl, "Square Biz" and "Ooo La La La" and released 13 albums throughout her 30-year career.

"The enduring influence of Teena's inspirational, trailblazing career could only have been made possible through her brilliant songwriting, showmanship and high-energy passion, which laid the groundwork for the future generations of R&B, hip-hop, and soul," Gene Rumsey, chief label officer of Marie's last label, Concord Music Group, said in a statement.
