LADY GAGA - MASSIVE SALES DROP BUT SHE'S STILL #1

Lady Gaga's third album - Born This Way", moved 174,000 copies this week, enough to retain the No. 1 spot but way down from the 1.1 million the first week.  The 84% drop in sales can be attributed to Amazon.com, which offered the Album at 99 Cents for two days during its release week.

Gaga became the fifth woman to sell over a 1,000,000 copies in one week. She follows Britney Spears’ "Oops! I Did It Again" -1,319,000, "The Bodyguard Soundtrack" featuring Whitney Houston - 1,061,000, Norah Jonas’ "Feels Like Home" - 1,022,000, and Taylor Swift’s "Speak Now" - 1,047,000.

WEIRD AL PARODIES -LADY GAGA, TAYLOR SWIFT, B.O.B AND MORE ON UPCOMING ALBUM!

Weird Al recently spoke with Reuters about his new album and the initial controversy with Lady Gaga -
The pop singer's manager had initially refused permission for Yankovic to release "Perform This Way," but Yankovic says things changed once Gaga herself heard the song.
"Even though her manager was presenting it as such, she had never once approached Gaga, so it was news to her when people were ... asking, 'How come you're not letting Weird Al do his parody?'" Yankovic told Billboard.com. "She was not aware of it at all, and when she actually did hear the song she loved it and gave me permission."
He Added -
"This is unfortunately not an isolated incident over the course of my career...I find it's better, whenever possible, to go directly to an artist and deal with them personally, but as it turns out I didn't happen to have Lady Gaga's home phone number or e-mail address."

Yankovic did hasten the process by posting the song on YouTube during the negotiations -- but only, he says, because it was the first time a manager had insisted on hearing an actual recording rather than simply reviewing a lyric sheet.

"I'd never done that before," he said. "I figured if you already have the lyrics, if you don't find those offensive then you're not going to find it offensive when you hear the fully produced version of it -- which is why I was kind of knocked for a loop when the answer we got back was 'no.'"
Now, however, the battle is history. Yankovic is a Gaga fan --
"I think she's a huge talent -- a great songwriter and a wonderful performer..." -- and the Gaga camp also gave him permission to use her "Poker Face" in a medley called "Polka Face" that appears on his new album "Alpocalypse," Due out June 21.
"Perform This Way" gave him a hook on which to hang the new album.
"I had the 11 other tracks in the can for close to a year," Yankovic said, "and I was waiting for the right lead-off single. I've come to learn over the course of my career that my albums are more successful if they are released concurrently with a single that's very topical and maybe celebrates a pop culture event of serious magnitude. I thought that Lady Gaga, and specifically her new album and single, was a sufficiently large event. I thought Gaga had sufficiently rocked the zeitgeist enough for me to make that choice."
The album also includes parodies of Taylor Swift's "You Belong With Me" ("TMZ"), Miley Cyrus' "Party in the U.S.A." ("Party in the CIA," also timely in the wake of the Osama Bin Laden assassination), B.o.B's "Nothin' On You" ("Another Tattoo") and T.I.'s "Whatever You Like," with the same title. Yankovic also recorded stylistic homages to the White Stripes ("CNR"), Queen ("Ringtone") and the Doors ("Craigslist," with the group's Ray Manzarek guesting on keyboards).

LADY GAGA "BORN THIS WAY" SELLS 1.1 MILLION!!

Its official - Lady Gaga has topped the Million in sales mark with "Born This Way"!!

From Billboard - Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" album debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 1,108,000 copies sold in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It's only the 17th album to sell a million in a week since SoundScan began tracking sales data in 1991, and the highest sales week since 2005.
"Born This Way" also marks Gaga's first No. 1 album -- "The Fame" debut peaked at No. 2, while "The Fame Monster" EP reached No. 5 and dance effort "The Remix" hit No. 6.
"Born This Way's" bow reaps the largest sales week of any album since 50 Cent's "The Massacre" did 1,141,000 in its first week, in March of 2005. The last time we had a million-plus frame was when Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" premiered at No. 1 with 1,047,000 in November of 2010. The SoundScan-era record week is held by NSYNC's "No Strings Attached," when it debuted at No. 1 with 2,416,000 in 2000.
Additionally, Gaga is only the fifth woman to notch a million-plus week. The record frame for a woman is held by the bow of Britney Spears' "Oops! I Did It Again," which started with 1,319,000 upon its release in May of 2000. "The Bodyguard" soundtrack, driven mostly by Whitney Houston songs, was the first SoundScan-era album to shift a million, and it did so over the busy Christmas shopping week of 1992 (1,061,000). Later, Norah Jonas' "Feels Like Home" debuted with 1,022,000 in 2004, and then the aforementioned Swift sizzled just last year.
While there wasn't any doubt as to whether Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" album would debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 -- that's been an assumption for months -- its first-week number was always in question. A month ago, executives at Gaga's record company, Universal Music Group, were expecting a first week total of around 400,000.

That number escalated to 650,000-700,000 by its release on Monday, May 23 -- the same day AmazonMP3 announced its controversial decision to sell the album for 99-cents for one day only. By last Wednesday (May 25), sources indicated that a million-unit week seemed quite plausible. Once Amazon opted to again sell the set for 99-cents on Thursday, May 26, "Born This Way's" million-unit week was all but guaranteed. It's estimated that AmazonMP3 sold upwards of 440,000 downloads of its 99-cent "Born This Way" album.
Gaga's total downloads haul from all digital retailers was 662,000 -- the biggest week for a digital album in SoundScan history. It represents 60% of the set's overall first week.
A full recap of the week's top 10 selling albums and digital songs will follow on Wednesday morning (June 1).

LADY GAGA WENT BANKRUPT AFTER "MONSTERS BALL" TOUR

It may be hard to believe that Lady GaGa would have to go bankrupt but it's true. The singer revealed recently in an interview with the Financial Times -
“I actually went bankrupt after the first extension of The Monster Ball. And it was funny because I didn’t know!”
Gaga went on to say that she went around calling people asking -
“Why is everyone saying I have no money? This is ridiculous; I have five No. 1 singles. And they said, ‘Well, you’re $3 million in debt.”
But money means nothing to the "Born This Way" singer -
“It’s honestly true that money means nothing to me. The only big things I’ve purchased are my dad’s heart valve and a Roll. Other than that I put everything in the show.”
Instead - she leans more towards fantasy...and magic -
“I live halfway between reality and fantasy at all times because I choose to, and anyone can choose that. I believe everybody has something so magical about themselves. Why, as a society, are we so afraid of magic? Why is magic synonymous with artifice? Why is the fantastic synonymous with a lie. If art is a lie then I will tell that lie every day until it’s f**king true.”

You gotta love an artist that literally puts everything into a show!

LADY GAGA TOPS ADELE IN FIRST WEEK SALES

(Billboard) - Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" album made its expected powerful arrival to the U.K. chart Sunday (May 29), with the biggest first-week sale of the year here of 215,000 units, more than the rest of the top ten titles combined. "Give Me Everything" by Pitbull featuring Nayer, Afrojack and Ne-Yo, meanwhile, starts a second week atop the singles chart.

Lady Gaga's opening U.K. sales narrowly beat Adele's first-week tally of 208,000 for "21" in late January. "Born This Way" is joined in the top ten by its predecessor "The Fame," which rises 11-7 and now has U.K. sales of more than 2.5 million copies, according to the Official Charts Company. Gaga also has three singles in the top 20, with "Judas" falling 8-9, the "Born This Way" title track 16-17 and "The Edge of Glory" 6-18. "Hair" fell 13-68.

"21," which had spent 16 of the previous 17 weeks at No. 1, dips to No. 2, but Adele's previous album "19" holds steady at No. 3. The first single from the current album "Rolling In The Deep" moves back 34-26, as the "Glee" cast version of the track debuts at No. 49.

LADY GAGA PLANS PROMO CAMPAIGN!

Lady Gaga is launching a massive rollout for her third album Born This Way, in stores Monday. The pop phenom has lined up a big release week with an expanded presence at retail and high-profile television appearances.

HITS Daily Double reports that Gaga’s label Interscope Records has high expectations for the project and is shipping a whopping 2 million units to a variety of retail outlets. Id like to see just how many she will sell in the first few days - her little monsters seem to stay very true to her.
Her publicity campaign is also about to go into overdrive. After recent appearances on “Oprah” and guesting as a mentor on “American Idol,” Gaga will also perform during the show’s finale on May 26 and be the musical guest on this weekend’s “Saturday Night Live” with host Justin Timberlake.
Hair,” the fourth release from Born This Way, has entered the top 5 on iTunes, while the title track set a record for the fastest-selling single in iTunes history. I like "Born This Way" it has nice meaningful lyrics - I do not however, like "Hair" but then again Im not a huge Gaga fan, I will say this though - she is definitely growing on me!

What do you think of Lady GaGa??

MADONNA AND GAGA DISTANT RELATIVES?

(Gossip On This) - Two of pop’s iconic characters may very well be related. Louise Veronica Ciccone and Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, better known to the world as pop phenomenons Madonna and Lady Gaga are reported to be ninth cousins once removed.

Celebrity Genealogist, Chris Child, decided to go digging and found that the queens of pop are descendants of a French immigrant couple who landed in Quebec in the 1600s.

Child’s said of his findings to the Boston Globe:
“When I saw that Lady Gaga had French Canadian ancestry I thought there might be something there”.

Gaga recently came under fire for her single “Born This Way” having strong similarities to Madonna’s huge hit, “Express Yourself”.
Maybe this is why…it’s in the blood!

Wouldn’t you just give anything to be a fly on the wall at this pair’s holiday celebrations!

How's That For Crazy News!!
